Looking For A Driver...

Whether you are a new client, or an existing client looking to make another booking, we are always pleased to hear from you. Our normal range of supply is from HGV 1 to car and light van. However, we can also supply drivers mates, driver escorts, and drivers with MiDAS, HIAB, ADR and CRB checking if required.

Driver Hire are the largest supplier of drivers to the UK transport industry, confirmed by Ernst Young in 2003. We pride ourselves on the quality of service that we deliver to you, and this is the foundation of our 10 Point Customer Guarantee.

The following are some of the reasons why our customers use us, and give us repeat bookings when their need arises:-

  • Using Driver Hire will give you the confidence that the drivers supplied will have been carefully interviewed and vetted to our ISO 9001 (2000) procedures, and their suitability for the driving assignment confirmed. We look for drivers that are reliable, and have a good attitude, taking up references for each one to confirm:-

  • Road craft skills, tacho and RTD knowledge are tested at the initial interview, which can take up to an hour and a half per driver.
  • The High Wycombe & Aylesbury office staff provide a genuine 24 hour, 7 day a week on call service where you are always able to talk directly to a member of staff, not an answer phone.
  • Each Driver Hire office is individually managed by its owner, which means that you as the customer will always receive the very best level of service, quality, consistency and reliability.
  • Driver Hire will take care of the employment issues associated with the drivers with respect to PAYE, National Insurance (including employer’s contribution), holiday and sick pay. This means that your responsibilities are reduced, and that you have more time to concentrate on running the business.

To make a booking:-

  • Give us a call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 01296 393235. Whilst the office isn’t manned all the time, you will always be able to speak to a member of staff. If you really have an immediate problem, give us a call. Sometimes we can get a driver to you in under an hour.
  • Tell us what driving licence entitlement the driver needs to have, how many points you will accept on their licence, the start and likely finish times, where the driver is going to, what the load is, and any specific Health and Safety issues with the work to be undertaken. We will make every effort to get back to you within 15 minutes with a driver’s name, or a report on where we are up to.
  • Once the driver has been identified, we will send you a FAX confirmation with your company details and who made the booking with us, the vehicle type and destination, date the driver is required and start time. We will have checked that the driver is RTD compliant, and confirmed this on the FAX to you.
  • We will fully brief the driver with everything that you have told us about the job, and what is expected of them.
  • If you are a new client we will provide you by FAX with our Terms and Conditions of Business, Credit Application Form, Customer 10 Point Guarantee and charge rates sheet. If you use a driver from us, it is assumed that Terms and Conditions of Business are accepted by the client, even if they are not returned to us with a signature.
  • When the driver reports to you, please explain clearly what you expect from them. If you have any specific maps on how to get to a destination, please let them have a copy.
  • When the driver has satisfactorily completed the day’s work, please sign their time sheet. This confirms acceptance of their work, and our instruction to pay and invoice yourselves. There is a minimum shift charge of 8 standard hours.
  • The following week we will send out an invoice to the address given to us, with any purchase order numbers given to us at the time of booking. There will always be a copy of the drivers time sheet attached to the back of the invoice for your reference. There may be additional charges for expenses incurred by the driver such as tunnel or motorway tolls, mobile phone calls made by the driver back to your office. The driver is not expected to fund fuel for the vehicle, and you need to make provision for this.
  • Tachograph charts remain the property of the client at all times. We will use our very best endeavours to return your tacho charts to you from our driver. We will accept from them the original chart, or a manual entry chart, or a declaration from the driver that the chart was handed in directly to the client. Charts not yet returned to us are monitored, and reminders sent out to the driver until we receive them back. We would also suggest taking a photocopy of the chart before the driver leaves your premises. Copies of all tachos are kept on file at the office should they need to retrieved at a later date.

The more time that you can give us to fill a booking, the better chance that we have of meeting your requirements. We will search our own database, and those of our surrounding offices to find the right driver for you.

When you book a driver from us, please tell us all of the duties that you expect them to undertake. This way we can brief the driver before they arrive, and they know what to expect from the job.

Please make sure that the driver’s time sheet is signed before they leave your premises. Strike through any empty boxes on the time sheet.
